HTML5: Video Control Buttons

HTML5 Video: Control Buttons - Scripts

Being mostly a front-end designer, I’m trying to learn more about jQuery and Javascript.

How’s it going?! It’s not intuitive for me … yet. I have so much respect for the back-end developers. It’s a whole different part of the brain that I need to tap in to learn the fine art of scripting.

Above image is of the scripts needed to create button controls for HTML5 video tags from the brilliant Think Vitamin folks. I’m a huge fan of Think Vitamin!

Below is the video as seen on the web:

Also, I’m in the process of redesigning my website using HTML5 and CSS3. If all goes well, there will also be an iPad and iPhone version of it. To say I’m excited is an understatement. I’m totally “in love” with HTML5 and all its new tags and functions. Not sure how long this will take since I’m juggling this project with client projects. Since client projects always come first, this may be a while.

HTML5 For Web Designers in the Wild

25 Jun

My friend Tu (UI designer) and I ordered HTML5 for Web Designers this past April or May when we were working together on a project in Dallas. We’ve been wondering ever since when our books will arrive.

Well, just found out tonight while browsing through Jason Santa Maria’s Flickr stream that the books are hitting the mail trucks soon.

Will write another quick post to let you know when it’s in the house. Meanwhile, I’m gazing longingly at this pretty picture by JSM and dream on.

Can’t wait to sniff my own copy!

The below web sites have wonderful job postings in all areas of web design and development. This list used to be on its own page, but since the number of “pages” is getting a bit too high lately, I’m moving it to the blog post section.

Don’t forget to bookmark! You’ll use this often, I promise.

      The Pros on Web Typography

      17 Nov

For years now, I’ve been a big fan of the hugely talented designer Jason Santa Maria. His blog is pure eye-candy and substance, a constant source of inspirations for me. Jason is also a regular writer for A List Apart and today his featured article On Web Typography was the best part of my lunch hour.

Coincidentally, Print Magazine recently interviewed Jeffrey Zeldman on the same subject: Typography on the Web: Questions for Jeffrey Zeldman, Part I.

Two awesome must-reads in one day!

      6 Awesome Javascript Libraries

      20 Jul

Here is a list of trusted JavaScript libraries for our use. Will try to update the list whenever I stumble upon more cool and reliable sources:

        1. Prototype
        2. script.aculo.us
        3. Yahoo! User Interface Library (YUI)
        4. Dojo
        5. jQuery
        6. MooTools

How can we tell a good library from a bad one? Good libraries come in the form of JavaScript files (.js) that can be linked into a web page unobtrusively without having to paste the JavaScript directly into your HTML code. Voila!

          Another Beginning

          20 Jul

It’s time for a change, after “living” in one place for too long. We are moving our old Clean Simple Designs blog from Blogger to WordPress.

To keep everything in one place, I’m also importing all archived entries into this blog. So all blogs you see here that are pre-dated from today are from the original Clean Simple Designs blog hosted with Blogger.
